Bingley is a small town in the Aire Valley, just north of Bradford in West Yorkshire's Bronte Country. The Leeds - Liverpool canal passes through Bingley, where boats must negotiate the famous Five Rise Locks. Nearby attractions and places to visit include the St Ives' estate, Beckfoot, the World Heritage site of Saltaire (built by the Victorian philanthropist Sir Titus Salt), and the villages of Haworth and Thornton (famous as the home and birthplace of the Brontes respectively). Meanwhile, across Rombalds Moor to the east lies the spa town of Ilkley, with the beautiful Yorkshire Dales to the north. Also nearby is the village of Cottingley, famous for its association with Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths, two local schoolchildren who back in 1917 photographed the Cottingley Fairies - which they claimed to be real fairies at the bottom of the garden.  What's on in Bingley

Bingley is a market town in the City of Bradford district of West Yorkshire in the Yorkshire and the Humber region of England. The local travel links are located less than a mile from the town centre to Bingley railway station and 7 miles to Leeds Bradford International Airport. Also, the main road running through the town centre is the B6265 (Main Street), connecting Bingley to Keighley. The town has a population of 28,817 according to the 2001 Census. The historic Yorkshire town of Bingley, is situated on the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Bingley was probably founded in Saxon times; certainly its name is Saxon in origin, meaning “Bing's clearing”, though this would not be the original spelling or pronunciation of Bing. Bingley is thought to have been founded around a ford on the River Aire. This crossing gave access to the villages of Harden, Cullingworth and Wilsden on the south side of the river. As well as the ford on the river, the other feature likely to have influenced Bing's decision and to foster Bingley's growth is the constriction of the Aire valley at the upstream side of the Bingley settlement.
